Because the people wanna know

Apparently I should put information about myself here.  If there’s something you want to know, just ask.

Well golly, someone actually asked!  I had to google “what’s ASL” but I think I know now!

Here’s something cryptic.

The beard in my tiny tiny photo might give away my sex, though with the hormone supplement market, maybe not.

The surveys I take tend to place me in the “35-44″ or “40-49″ or my favourite precision dating system: “18-55″ demographic.

I live in Canada, near Niagara Falls, or as the national media usually says “outside of Toronto” which usually means anywhere south of Sudbury. (Not that the national media often talks about me; I mean when people living in Southern Ontario are referenced, often the national papers use stupid phrases like “lives outside of Toronto” which could be a two hours’ drive away.)  I am Canadian, have always been, actually took an oath to the Queen when I worked for the government during my student years.  I learned you could opt out of swearing on a Bible, but not out of the swearing for the Queen.  I guess we all have our fictions.  Divine right of kings versus divine king, right?  I guess you’re not supposed to swear at the queen, either, though I tried to do that once, too.

I’m mildly left of centre (no surprise given the topics of my blog) which means I think people are generally decent and we should all get along and help each other out.  But in a big society like ours we need mechanisms to help (like welfare, social services, public health care, and so on) rather than the Utopian, libertarian and completely impractical hyper conservative solution that argues people can make it on their own.  Most people in poverty didn’t make their lives that way through some conscious act of stupidity, they are the victims of a system far beyond their own control, so how can we possibly think they should be able to improve their lives without support?

I should probably leave the rants for the blog.
